Arkansas police: Autistic girl, 9, shot little brother

Police say a 9-year-old autistic girl fatally shot her 7-year-old brother at the family's Arkansas apartment while their parents were signing paperwork at a leasing office.

Little Rock Police Sgt. Cassandra Davis said Tuesday that the girl initially told authorities two men entered the apartment Monday and shot her brother. But there were no signs of forced entry and the girl's father told investigators she has autism and often tells stories.

Police say later conversations with the girl led them to believe she was responsible for the shooting. Davis declined to say whether the girl has been tested for ballistic evidence.

A prosecutor didn't immediately respond to a phone call seeking comment.

The Associated Press is not naming the boy or his parents so as not to identify the girl.
